The European Network EARTH (European Alliance for Responsible Tourism and Hospitality) calls the European institutions to fund the launch of a European-wide study in order to measure the place of consumption and expectations of consumers regarding sustainable and responsible tourism.
The results of this study could help to distinguish market opportunities, identify potential innovations to guide and adjust the supply, and increase the competitiveness of tourism operators. Tourism stakeholders (European networks, SMEs, associations, NGOs, consulting firms, associations, foundations and also public authorities) call for clear and universal indicators regarding responsible and sustainable tourism to be integrated into the official tourism statistics of each country as well as at European level.
Indeed to date, no study has been produced at the European level to monitor and measure sustainable and responsible tourism demand. The dimensions of sustainability and responsibility are not included in official tourism statistics. Sustainable and responsible tourism is a sector that is growing and changing rapidly due to consumer’s expectations and therefore it must be measured and evaluated.
As a result, EARTH asks that those European organizations that wish to see this study come to fruition to become signatories. EARTH would like to present a list of signatory organizations to the EU institutions by the end of the year 2015.
You can get more detailed information here: EN study sustainable and responsible tourism in Europe (also available in French, Spanish and Italian) or in the file attached.
Organizations approving this study can sign HERE and to join the list of organizations that are already committed.
