A launching conference of European Tourism Indicator System (ETIS) for Sustainable Management of Destinations was held on 22nd February 2013 in Brussels (Belgium). The conference was organized by the European Commission in conjunction with the University of Surrey, Sustainable Travel International and The Intansave Partnership. Over 200 participants from private sector industry, destination managers, consultants and experts attended the event. The authors of the system explained how they made the indicator system and what it are the principles. Moreover, it was shared the first impressions on challenges for implementing this System by four different destinations. The participants also had the chance to provide comments, questions and suggestions to the authors and the European Commission representative in this event, Ms. Francesca Tudini.
“The European Commission has made a big effort to provide this new System and it is expected that the DMOs start to use it from now on and provide their feedback”, Ms. Tudini explained.
