The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the UNWTO.Themis Foundation and the Qatar Tourism Authority are jointly organizing the UNWTO Regional Capacity Building Course on Sustainable Tourism Project Development, to be held in Doha from 7th to 11th December 2014, and have invited officials from: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen, to participate.

I am very pleased to be one of the two facilitators together with Adel Rady and work together with Sonia Figueras, UNWTO Capacity Programme Manager, and Álvaro Moreno, the course coordinator.

The objective of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge, skills, tools and a forum for discussion on sustainable tourism project development. At the end of the course, participants will have seen and worked on elements and concepts of a sustainable tourism project management, of funding and investment for a tourism project, of partnerships, and will have applied a framework for developing a sustainable tourism project management, with emphasis on investment and partnerships.

The combined theoretical and practical capacity building course will allow participants to share useful experiences through presentations from international experts, discussions, debates, group work, fieldwork and practical activities.

Mr. Omar Valdez, Executive Director of the UNWTO.Themis Foundation stated “at the end of this activity, UNWTO.Themis will be proud to announce, for the first time, that 3 Executive Training Courses were carried on in one single member state in one year. Qatar Tourism Authority is giving high priority to training its staff, as well as offering this training to other public and private sector institutions, and specially to other countries in the region, making these activities richer, more international, and cooperative”.

Sustainable Tourism Project Development is more and more the critical element for tourism growth, as some of our readers and followers know, as developers of the PM4SD™ capacity building certification we strongly believe it is the key to the success for destinations, communities and the entire supply chain.
