The European Commission has recently launched the ICT & Tourism Initiative : a platform that will provide information to facilitate business relations between SMEs and big companies and support SMEs in participating in the digital value chain.
This new platform will be based on 3 pillars:
- a policy component: it will have the form of an expert group. High level personalities from the area of tourism as well as from the ICT area will analyse market evolution, identify needs and provide recommendations for future policy development
- a technological component: it will be based on a demonstration project. The project aims at facilitating ICT aspects of cooperation between companies located at different sections of the tourism industry’s value chain. The demonstration project is expected to start early 2012
- operational component: it will provide information on market developments, e-Toolkits, legislation and funding possibilities, statistics and figures. This component is expected to be delivered towards the end of 2012.
The ICT & Tourism Initiative aims at increasing the cooperation between SMEs and bigger companies thus benefiting consumers through more flexible and personalised services.
