On September 20th 2013, DIESIS Coop- European Research and Development Service for the Social Economy, EARTH (European Alliance for Responsible Tourism and Hospitality) and the consortium of partners , presented the project “European Nature system” , a European project on rural and nature-based tourism.
The project is part of ECVET (European Credit System for vocational education and training) system aimed at training professionals in rural tourism and eco-tourism so they can perform specialized jobs, such as environmental guides, environmental educators, agritourism managers among others.
The main scope of European Nature system is to define and validate rural and nature tourism professionals competences through a system of credits recognized at first within the partnership countries (Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria and Latvia) and eventually at EU level.
The event welcomed representatives from the European Commission DG Enterprise and Industry and DG Education and Culture, who explained the ETIS-European Tourism Indicators system and its importance on sustainability and socio-economic and environmental impacts.
Partners of the project, along with consulting firms interested or working in sustainable tourism practices and research, actively engaged in a final social platform discussion on the strengths and weaknesses of the project, highlighting the need for a better interaction and communication between public and private sectors on the establishment of employment policies on one hand, and job profile requirements on the other.
It is expected that the activities of the European Nature System will enhance the mobility of nature-based tourism professionals, contributing to the emergence of generally accepted qualifications and training standards. The foreseeable impact of the project on the target group is significant (at least 100 nature-based tourism professionals across Europe, of which 40 in Italy and 20 in each of the other participation country) and also after the project completion, through valorization activities targeted to public and sectoral decision-makers on end-users, at local, regional, national and European level.
