European Parliament announces the decision to create a Tourism Task Force

An important step for the enhancement of the European tourism policies was took last 19th of June within the European Parliament Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) that announced the decision to create a Tourism Task Force.

The Parliamentary decision gives details on the future composition of the Task Force, being formed by 5 members representing the European People´s Party (EPP), 3 members from the Progressive Alliance of Socialists & Democrats (S&D), 2 representing the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), and finally Greens European Free alliance (GREEN), European United Left/Nordic Green Left (GUE), European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), and Europe of Freedom & Democracy (EFD) with 1 member each, plus 1 non-attached. Anyway this scheme would not prevent any other Member from taking part in the meetings.

Furthermore, the Task Force would be chaired by the TRAN Chair, currently Mr Brian Simpson, and the standing Rapporteur from the EPP group, Mr Carlo Fidanza, will be the Vice-Chair (leaving the EPP Group with 4 more members to choose).

The meetings will be held formally as part of the TRAN Committee meetings, and if necessary, additional meeting slots would be found, on a case-by-case basis, using a limited language regime. The calendar of meetings and the work-programme will be decided by the Task Force in cooperation with the TRAN Secretariat to ensure coherence with TRAN meeting agenda.

Political groups were invited to nominate their representatives by next 28 June, also informing that the constitutive meeting of the Task Force will take place as soon as possible.
