The European Summer School in Leadership and Management in Sustainable Tourism starts today

After months of preparation and hard work, we are very excited that the Summer School in Leadership and Management in Sustainable Tourism is finally here.

Everything is prepared and we are ready to welcome our first participants: the delegates who will attend the PM4SD™ Practitioner Training Course. The Practitioner qualification confirms that the candidates have sufficient understanding of how to apply and tailor PM4SD™ in a scenario situation. This implies previous knowledge, meaning that to attend such course, delegates have already passed the Foundation exam, in one of our Foundation Training Courses, held throughout Europe since the begin of this year.

After this 2 day intensive training course, we head to a 2 day Public Conference, with international donors from UNEP, the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, the Euromed Heritage Programme, Leeds Metropolitan University and more, to discuss the role PM4SD™ as a tool to make tourism more sustainable, by creating long term benefits and truly impact local communities. Despite the fact that tourism is the third largest industry in Europe, donors are still reticent to support tourism investments, partly because of the lack of socio-economic impact data.

But the Summer School is not just about discussing tourism, it is also about practicing tourism. We prepared three social activities for our participants:
• A Conference Dinner (10th of July), at Trattoria Medina, where guest can taste the real Italian pizza;
• A Winery Tour and dinner (11th of July) at Feudi di San Gregorio;
• And a Study Visit to Ercolano (12th of July), an ancient Roman town destroyed by volcanic pyroclastic flow in 79 A.D. The purpose of this visit is to test concepts and techniques learned during the conference.
