Next week, from January 21st to January 24th 2014 stay tuned for two major events in sustainable tourism and innovation in the global arena happening in Madrid.
The first one, FITUR Green 2014- Innovative and Sustainable management: a commitment to the Tourist, (January 22nd-24th 2014) the International Tourism Fair in Spain, jointly organized by Hotel Technology Institute (ITH), the UNWTO World Tourism Organization and FITUR, seeks to bring innovation and sustainability to the tourism sector, in order to boost competitiveness, both for the private sector and for destinations, vis-à-vis current trends and consumers’ expectations and demand. The three day event will showcase successful national and international initiatives, projects and practical experiences through a series of roundtables, interventions and workshops.
UNWTO participation at FITUR Green includes roundtables on the topics of Innovation for Sustainable Tourism and Sustainability and Competitiveness, as well as the presentation of the project “Towards Zero Energy Hotels”.
The second one is the UNWTO Knowledge Network Symposium, discussing the future of Tourism in a more interconnected and a more competitive world, and bridging theory and practice in tourism innovation. As closing, the UNWTO Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner will recognize prizes for outstanding works in the global tourism sector, in the fields of creation and dissemination of knowledge, Innovation in Public Policy and Governance, Innovation in Enterprises, Innovation in Non-Governmental organizations and Innovation in Research and Technology.
Moreover, on January 20th, the United Nations World Tourism Organization- UNWTO annual press conference will present the latest edition of its World Tourism Barometer, providing an overview of international tourism results for 2013 and forecasts for 2014.
